Press statement by MCA Penang State Liaison Committee Secretary Tang Heap Seng

CM Guan Eng must address forum by 24 RAs on flood woes concerns

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should be condemned for purportedly being irresponsible. Although 24 residents’ associations from all over Penang Island intend to organise a forum titled ‘Penang Flood: Call for Action’ and Lim Guan Eng was invited, but Lim Guan Eng so far refuses to attend. Penangites can see that the DAP-led Penang government is not sincere in solving serious Penang flood issue. Penangites have given up on the state government!

Frustrated by the never-ending flood problems in Penang, a group of 24 residents associations and management corporations got together to arrange a  ‘Penang Flood: Call for Action’ forum on 29 Oct 2017. But when Lim Guan Eng was invited, he just smiled and disdained to reply. Penangites can hardly put up with his arrogance any longer.

I urge Lim Guan Eng to explain what "people-oriented" is? Up to 24 residents associations made a collective call to the state government to take the flood and hill erosion issues very seriously and urged Lim Guan Eng to focus on resolving the flood issues. But the state government just repaid them all with a disdainful smile?

The Penang Chief Minister is further urged to attend the forum and take a serious look at the 12 demands of the forum, and listen carefully to Penangites who are dissatisfied with the DAP-led state government who failed to handle the recent floods that hit Penang on 15 September 2017.

Penangites asked the government to take into account the situation of rainfall, floods and hill erosion very seriously as they require a very reasonable action as the Penang floods and landslides have threatened people's safety seriously. I hope there is still a little human nature left in Lim Guan Eng. At the very least, he should take responsibility to take care of the safety of Penangites, and do not make the hearts of Penangites break!
