Public safety is a priority; the opposition should not politicise beer fest ban

While busy slandering MCA President Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, does the opposition spare a thought for public safety?

In responding to whether or not to ban the “Better Beer Festival 2017” in Kuala Lumpur, MCA has been consistent in our stance, upholding the principle of rejecting the notion of disallowing it because of political or religious sensitivity. This is due to the fact that such a ban will violate the rights and freedom of non-Muslims guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.

Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai had in fact emphasised this point in Cabinet. But after having a discussion, DBKL has put forward the concerns of public safety raised by the police as the reason to reject the organiser’s application. Since the authority dealing with security has good reasons to raise such safety concerns, by all means MCA will not put the public lives and properties in danger.

Human lives should not be trivialised at all costs. As a responsible political party, MCA will never put other people’s lives in danger just to please certain quarters. This is the biggest difference between MCA and DAP - after all DAP is only good at politicising issues, for the sake of pleasing others.

Moreover, DAP is most disqualified to criticise MCA. It is DAP which empowered PAS, causing PAS to be bold in raising up more issues. This includes the Oktoberfest and Valentine’s Day which PAS has objected against over the past few years, resulting in mounting pressures within the federal government’s administration.

DAP has never apologised to the non-Muslims, what makes them qualified to criticise MCA?
