PETALING JAYA: MCA has called on Pakatan Harapan leaders to emulate DAP’s Penang state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh who signed an MCA Youth petition which opposes the proposed scrapping of the death penalty.

Pahang MCA Youth secretary Saw Yee Fung said DAP, which had always supported abolishing the death penalty, finally appeared to have its first elected representative opposing the proposal.

Saw said MCA Youth, which had set up a counter in Cameron Highlands to get signatures for their petition, came across Phee there.

“After listening to MCA Youth’s explanation and understanding the campaign’s goals and missions, he did not hesitate to sign to support the campaign against the abolition of the death penalty.

This is commendable,” she said in a statement.

Saw urged DAP and Pakatan not to take disciplinary action against Phee.

“Party leaders and parliamen-tarians should support the campaign against the abolition of the death penalty, pressure the government to withdraw the Bill on abolishing the death penalty, and instead comfort the families of victims of murder, and allow the dead to rest in peace,” she said.
