Press Statement by Pahang MCA Youth Secretary Saw Yee Fung

Phee Boon Poh must clarify his stance regarding the abolition of death penalty

I believe Penang exco Phee Boon Poh owes everyone an apology for singing a different song after ratifying a petition against the abolition of death penalty.

It was painful to watch a veteran politician coming out with such a half-baked excuse. If Phee refuses to support the movement opposing the scrapping of death penalty, he simply had to communicate that and not went through all the troubles of backpedalling after ratification.

Every average joe knows that a certain amount of responsibility follows upon putting your signature on a document.  Such a shame that the state exco did not seem to know even that much.

Right now, Phee must clarify whether he is with the people by supporting the retainment of death penalty,  or against their will by endorsing the abolishment of capital punishment.

If Phee thinks that he has to constantly dispute all stances of the opposition, regardless of public sentiment, then maybe he is worse than any of his muted compatriots.

Furthermore, the petition movement was held on the streets of Bertam Valley, and the petition paper was titled “Against the abolition of death penalty” handled by members wearing T-shirts with similar wordings; there was no surreptitious business going on that day.

Phee Boon Poh had refused to walk the talk, and now he resorts to slandering others. The man needs to eat some humble pie over his cowardly actions.
