Press Statement by MCA Publicity Spokesman (English/Bahasa Malaysia) cum MCA Religious Harmony Bureau Chairman Dato’ Sri Ti Lian Ker

DAP hypocritical in Khairy criticism

1) I refer to the article where DAP's Yeo Bee Yin asks, “Why is Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin so afraid of Malaysiakini?" (https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/398858)

2) This coming from a member of a party that isn't afraid to not only ban and prohibit some mainstream journalists from covering their events, they take some reporters to court and sue them for millions.

3) This is the most hypocritical party of the lot. DAP leaders should shut their mouth when it comes to matter like this as they are guilty of far worse. At least in the case of Khairy Jamaluddin, he asked his aide to politely tell the journalist to leave, which rendered no embarrassment to the individual.

4) I do believe is press freedom but the press must also be accountable for their stories. Sensationalised news may sell but might not be fair to a person that is being interviewed off guard trying best to answer the questions from various minds. So if you are always known to "spin" stories or to quote out of context, it would be fair to say KJ took the polite route out of that situation.

5) Nevertheless, DAP leaders who criticise the move are hypocrites simply because Lim Guan Eng has been suing journalist and news organisation for years. He has even banned journalists from covering his events in Penang.

6) Lim Guan Eng has banned the New Straits Times and Utusan Malaysia from covering his events before, and PKR has banned TV3 (https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/254403).

7) Lim Kit Siang has sued journalist or their organisation before as well. He has publically vilified another journalist when the question posed struck a nerve which even prompted Gerakan Media Merdeka (Geramm) to issue a statement out against Lim Kit Siang (http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/journalists-have-right-to-ask-questions-kit-siang-told#VfHK031uICPDlwDv..97)

8) Lim Guan Eng has sued NST and its journalist in 2003 for an article entitled, "Indian-interest group claims thugs interrupted meeting". In Feb of this year, Lim Guan Eng also said he wanted to sue NST and Berita Harian for defamation.

9) So let me politely ask Damansara Utama assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin, do you know the type of people your bosses are? Let me answer that for you, they are thick-skinned hypocrites. They preach about media freedom but sue media organisations and journalists left, right and centre. So before you release a statement defending your bosses, do a reality check first, because they people already have.
