Press statement by Wanita MCA Chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie

Heng urges Bung Moktar to apologise over sexist remarks against women!

Wanita MCA is aghast at Umno Member of Parliament (MP) Bung Moktar’s remarks which say ‘‘If a woman is not pretty, even if she is nude, who would want her.’’ Such derogatory comment is not only sexist, but also undermines women in general. Therefore he owes Malaysian women an apology!

Bung Moktar has repeatedly made remarks that insult the women. If Bung Moktar wishes to comment on the no-headscarf hotel policy applied to the Muslim women, he could argue with an informed and rational perspective, instead of issuing a humiliating remark.

Bung Moktar’s remarks has caused public uproar, not only that it failed to speak for the Muslim women, it has also humiliated and offended all Malaysian women. Under this context, Wanita MCA strongly condemned such insensitive remarks!

In fact, this is not the first time Bung Moktar has talked loosely in Parliament. Before this there were ‘‘bocor setiap bulan’’ and ‘‘women drivers are slow and oblivious’’ remarks which have embarrassed and insulted all women. This is unbearable and it is time for Bung Moktar to apologise!

At the same time, we urge the Parliament Speaker to step up against the demeanor of lawmakers in Parliament, and to sternly penalise those who come up with sexist and hurting remarks. This is to maintain the integrity of the Parliament, so that it will not be made a laughing stock and tarnish Malaysia’s international image.
