A NEW police station will be sought for Alma in Bukit Mertajam to address the security concerns of the residents.

Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said he would appeal to the Federal government for the station due to the rapid development and population increase in the area.

“They are worried about crime so a police station would be good for the residents," he said after spending about two hours meeting traders and marketgoers in Taman Selamat, Alma, during a walkabout on Saturday.

He also said he would look into the residents’ grouses about traffic congestion on Jalan Rozhan and concerns of flooding in low-lying areas.

“It will require resources and support that can be provided by the Federal government,” said Tan.

Also present was Penang MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Gui Guat Lye, who is also the party's Bukit Mertajam division chief.
