Gold medal may be precious, but national unity is more worthwhile!

Congratulations to all our Malaysian athletes for their great achievements in the just-concluded Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro!

Although our country has not obtained a gold medal in the Olympics, the fighting spirit of our athletes have touched our hearts and united the whole nation. Their noble contributions made us proud to be Malaysian and are by far the best gift for the upcoming National Day!

Obtaining 4 silvers and 1 bronze was a breakthrough achievement for Malaysia, where we have won medals in more games, showing tremendous improvement in the general standards and quality of performance of our athletes.

Our cyclist Azizulhasni Awang clinched the historic bronze medal for Malaysia’s Olympic cycling; while Pandelela and Jun Hoong won a silver in the women’s synchronised 10m platform diving, following her bronze medal win at the last Olympics. Badminton mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying as well as badminton men’s singles Lee Chong Wei also done the country proud by each winning a silver respectively.

All our athletes’ medals are indeed ‘pure gold’ to us, as they have worked so hard and deserve a big thumbs up! Especially for badminton, where people shed tears when the last shuttlecock fell in the semi-final match between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan, it was such a touching scene filled with magnanimity.

What is even more priceless is the whole Olympic journey of the athletes have inspired national unity among the different ethnic groups, which is also the mission and vision of the country leaders. Hence, I would like to commend and applaud all our Rio Olympians. After all, gold medal may be precious, but national unity is still more worthy.

We must all be proud to be Malaysians. We may not be among the most powerful nations, but our fighting spirit is ahead of everyone in all fields. Malaysia Boleh is not merely a slogan, our talents will be able to create a name for Malaysia in various aspects around the world, as long as our people are united and willing to work together in line with the Prime Minister’s strategic transformations. Vision 2020 is no longer a dream, Malaysians must leverage the Rio Olympics spirit for the country’s continued progress.
