Press statement by MCA Vice President Senator Dato’ Sri Ti Lian Ker

MOF is not an election machinery

With the Cameron Highlands by-election now entering the countdown stage, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government especially DAP leaderships are resorting to political trickeries in an attempt to win by hook or crook. Minister of Finance Lim Guan Eng made another preposterous politically charged statement claiming that the Pahang government owed the Central government RM3.2 billion, and used it to mislead the Cameron Highlands electorate into believing that the Pahang government was unable to carry out sustainable development. This is yet another of his many trademark incomplete “distorted”, “exaggerated” and “unfair” statement.

It is grossly unfair for the Minister of Finance, whose duty is to diligently manage the national economy, to stoop low beneath his ministry by subjecting the Ministry to play the role of a PH agency launching attacks against political foes. This is clearly an abuse of power?

During the by-election, PH had abused the use of 4-wheel drive vehicles owned by the Forestry Department, and the Attorney-General’s Chamber suddenly sues the Kelantan government on behalf of the Orang Asli community, under the pretext of defending Kelantan aboriginals’ land rights. What about the fishing villagers who protested in Penang, Melaka and Selangor on developments that are affecting their livelihood and disrupting their lives? Why single out the opposition-ruled state of Pahang during a by-election?

Now, the Ministry of Finance joins in the fun to bully Pahang, indicating that the whole PH Federal government, in particular, DAP ministries are involved in the by-election.

In the 14th general elections, people chose PH hoping that it will bring about good governance and just management of government resources. The rakyat were looking forward to a better, fairer and level government.

Now, in just 8 months PH’s repeatedly used and abused their powers in breach of promises made and betrayed the principles they preached.

PH government’s combative DNA extended to increasing hostility with friendly neighbours China and Singapore. This had greatly affected our diplomatic ties and international trades. The strained relationship with Singapore had dampened the trade of Cameron Highlands vegetables and floral products. All these have negatively affected the livelihood of farmers there.

PH should stop their politics of vengeance, greed for more power in the Parliament negating the “check and balance” and two-party system that they advocated when in the opposition.

The thinking rakyat will not turn a blind eye to this continuing obsession in politicking, combat and hostility to all who are in the PH way. This is the beginning of “power corrupts” by PH. Allowing them to have a 2/3 majority in Parliament will allow them to “corrupt absolutely”. The rakyat and the voters in Cameron Highland must use this coming 26th January by-election to send a clear message to PH to manage their powers with wisdom for the benefit of the rakyat and country. The rakyat didn’t put them in power to watch them used their powers to gain more power which will be detrimental to the “check and balance” requirements.

Ironically, PH is now transgressing into doing what they objected in the past, including the distribution of ‘petrol subsidy’ to Orang Asli, using government resources to campaign, utterance of racist statements, threatening and bribing voters and so on. This is a parody and a comic of what they advocated in the past.
