100-day honeymoon over: PH must inform which Manifesto Promises they can’t fulfil

Today marks the 100th day since the Pakatan Harapan administration came into power on 9th May 2018. Many would, and should, hold the Pakatan Harapan to their election Manifesto, specifically their 10 Promises to be honoured in 100 days.

As it is, of the 10 Promises, only 20% have been implemented. This is an admission not by any leader of the Pakatan Harapan, but an admission by the Pakatan Harapan President herself, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister.

There is no need to emphasise on what the promises were, and what are the promises which have been fulfilled. But rather, it is my humble opinion that since several Pakatan Harapan leaders have admitted that they are unable to fulfil all their promises, be it the 10 Promises or the other promises in their Manifesto, within 100 days for various reasons, in the spirit of transparency and accountability which was championed by Pakatan Harapan leaders prior to coming into power, it is pertinent for the Pakatan Harapan leadership to state in no uncertain term the timeframe for which they are to implement their election promises.

Furthermore, as Prime Minister YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad has said that the election promises are not holy Bible (“Manifesto bukan kitab suci”), it is in the same spirit that it is also pertinent for the Pakatan Harapan leadership to inform the rakyat as to which of their election promises that they are unable to fulfil.

Lastly, in conjunction with the end of the first 100 days since the Pakatan Harapan administration has taken power, it also marks the end of the honeymoon period for the Pakatan Harapan administration. The present government must uphold its moral duty in fulfilling most, if not all, of its election promises, and to act in the best interests of the nation and her citizens. It is thus in such spirit that we urge all Malaysians to come along together to monitor and check on the government to ensure that Malaysia will continue to thrive as a better nation.
