Press statement by MCA Publicity Spokesperson Chan Quin Er

Temple riots incident regretted, refer to authorities for clarity

MCA regrets the occurrence of a riot which befell the site of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, located in Putra Heights of Subang Jaya, earlier in the morning of 26 Nov 2018. The incident resulted in injuries, of which 18 cars of different models and 2 motorcycles were burnt as well.

The police’s swift action has put the situation under control with several arrests made. Around 700 police officers have been deployed to monitor the site condition from time to time. Such efforts by PDRM are laudable indeed.

MCA urges all quarters to cease all speculation and rumours, especially regarding the alleged racial assaults, as this will jeopardise societal harmony and interfere with the police’s probe into the matter.

Irrespective of the cause of the incident, demonstrators must never harm, vandalise or damage the properties of others. Any disputes and misunderstanding should be resolved through discussions and the rule of law, rather than violence which does not benefit anyone.

MCA urges and supports the police’s efforts in conducting a thorough investigation and in taking all necessary measures to restore public order and security in the area.
