Road charge and toll waiver comes at perfect timing for reopening of Malaysia-Singapore land borders

The government’s announcement on toll exemption at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) at the Johor Causeway and the Second Link in Tanjung Kupang, Gelang Patah is a well-thought plan executed at the perfect timing.

Prime Minister YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the toll exemption involves all types of vehicle for seven (7) days, starting from 1 April to 7 April. This decision demonstrates the government’s concern for the people to have a smooth traveling experience.

In addition, the Road Charge (RC) is waived for Singapore-registered vehicles, benefitting Malaysians returning to Malaysia in these vehicles. Aside from reducing congestions, this move will also enable these road users to top-up and renew their ‘Touch n Go’ and ‘Smart Tag’, which was not possible since border closure two years ago. This arrangement was the result of a fruitful meeting between Transport Minister YB Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong and Johor Menteri Besar YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on 28 March 2022.

When the Malaysia-Singapore land border reopens tomorrow (1 April), many Malaysians who have been working abroad and Singaporeans will surely take advantage of the Road Charge waiver to come to Malaysia for various reasons including social, tourism, or even commerce.

With the increased traffic brought in by the reopening, commercial activities will surely be heightened, simultaneously helping develop the national economy and benefitting all Malaysians.
