Lim Ban Hong: MATRADE Exporters Development Programmes aid local SMEs venture overseas

(Kuala Lumpur, 24 Sept) The Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Lim Ban Hong visited TXMR Sdn Bhd located at Budiman Industrial Zone in Cheras today. TXMR has engaged with MATRADE, an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in the latter’s Exporters Training Programmes  - a programme which has successfully helped many local SMEs to venture into international markets. More local SMEs are urged to actively participate in order to strengthen their competitiveness and productivity.

As TXMR has participated in a number of MATRADE projects, the purpose of Datuk Lim’s visit was to understand the challenges encountered by the company during economic recovery and how to enhance the government initiatives to assist the local companies. Founded in 2010, TXMR focuses on providing Mechatronics Design and Engineering Solutions for Automation and Robotic Systems. The company is an SME with dozens of employees in its payroll. Its customers include world-renowned multinational corporations. With sales having developed steadily during the pandemic, this shows the strength and resilience of local SMEs.

TXMR Managing Director Tengku Mohd Farid, reported to Datuk Lim that the company has actively participated in the MATRADE’s Exporters Development Programmes since its establishment, and obtained a lot of information on the international market. Through the Market Development Grant (MDG), TXMR has participated in major exhibitions worldwide, including the famous Messe exhibition in Hannover, Germany, as well as learnt about the importance of the origins of Industry 4.0. This government incentive not only broadens knowledge and contacts, but also finds strategic partners and many international buyers.

The MATRADE Exporter Development Programme held 39 online courses from 1 January to 31 August this year, drawing 10,027 participants. The MATRADE Market Development Grant (MDG) assists local SMEs to participate in globally renowned exhibitions. Participating companies may receive a lifetime subsidy of up to RM300,000, including reimbursement for exhibition fees, travel expenses, accommodation and other major expenses. From January 1st to August 31st this year, MATRADE has distributed a total of RM 8.47 million in MDGs, benefiting a total of 828 companies.

MATRADE is committed towards promoting the export of Malaysian products and services. Local SMEs should actively participate in and make good use of MATRADE’s incentive packages to carry out business transformation and strengthen corporate competitiveness and productivity. Besides taking into account the local traditional market, SMEs should also develop wider in the international market to help the country achieve full economic recovery in the post-pandemic era as soon as possible.
