The Opposition forming ‘Shadow Cabinet’? It is harder than reaching the sky

Parti Pribumi Bersatu party chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin contemplated forming a shadow cabinet, so that the people know who would be in the cabinet if the opposition came into power. What makes Muhyiddin thinks that his word can unlock the spell cast upon the opposition’s power struggle? This is harder than reaching the sky.

Muhyiddin’s statement revealed the truth about internal fighting within the opposition. To remain in power, the spirit of negotiation upheld by the opposition becomes non-existent on temptation of cabinet posts and powers.

Muhyiddin’s remarks simply exposed its party’s shortcomings, ranging from the opposition’s choice of Prime Minister to seat allocation and cabinet post delegation, as if unravelling the ugly sides of the opposition, which is very shameful.

As we are all aware, the opposition’s ultimate political goal is to replace the Barisan Nasional (BN), take over Putrajaya and seize power. Is the opposition able to complete such uphill task? Unity and the spirit of negotiation are a thing of the distant past for the opposition, where they will only sit together for discussion on personal interests. But they will put themselves first and thus can never reach consensus on anything.

Since the establishment of Pakatan Harapan in 2008, the so-called shadow cabinet issue always appears in news related to the opposition, and their alleged cabinet’s name list was also widely reported by the media. However, the whole proposal led to nothing in the end.

When it is closer to the general election, the opposition will tell the media they have the name list for the shadow cabinet. But this always turn out to be a shadow play with no results. As a former Umno leader, Muhyiddin is very familiar with the opposition’s tactics, where he tries to win cabinet post on the pretext of cooperating with the opposition.

The opposition will never reach consensus on ‘shadow cabinet’. DAP, Amanah and Bersatu all have their own political interests and will fight against each other for their own benefits.
