Bipartisan MoU opens up new political culture: Incumbent on ruling & opposition parties to implement MoU

As both ruling and opposition parties have undertaken a historic step in signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Transformation and Political Stability, both coalitions must undertake actions to reflect a new political culture as conveyed by this MoU and implement the “Malaysian Family (Keluarga Malaysia)” aspiration as envisioned by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri.

The afore-mentioned MoU inked by both the federal government and Pakatan Harapan is an unprecedented new milestone in our country’s political history. It also opens up new opportunities towards advancing the democratic process in Malaysia.

With the consensus and principles contained in this MoU, in the best interests of the nation and rakyat, both ruling and opposition members must cease all unnecessary verbal warfare and endless political calculations and speculations, but instead, commit towards tackling the pandemic and reinvigorating the economy.

Be it within and beyond Parliament, MPs should conduct political debates in a healthy, civilised and constructive manner. In particular, MPs must focus on the country’s most important challenge, namely, defeating Covid-19, resuscitating the economy and improving people’s lives and livelihoods.

The core of the MoU is to set aside all political struggle as the Covid-19 pandemic rages, and allow both sides to concentrate all resources, time and strength on issues that are most vital to the people.

MCA Youth therefore urges both political divides to uphold and practise a new political culture and consensus democracy through unity and togetherness as envisaged by the MoU for the sake of the nation’s future.
