News release by MCA Vice President and Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industries Datuk Lim Ban Hong

eTrade continues to help participating SMEs overcome pandemic woes

In the eTrade programme under MATRADE, an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), since 2017 to 2020, a total of 3,358 companies have participated in the programme, generating over RM376.3 million in exports. Hence, more companies are invited to join in the success and continue using the eTrade platform to overcome their pandemic woes.

During a visit to one of the participating companies – Creativize, its executive director Mr Joachim Sebastian spoke about the government incentives and packages granted to his company, as well as the important insight of international trading provided by the eTrade platform which was the key that allowed the industry to reach its present success.

We were told that Creativize is an SME based in designing vinyl stickers for automotive and interior décor. Since its founding in 2015, it has used eTrade to venture into Amazon and eBay to reach the European American market, allowing the company to continue getting decent revenue and growth amidst the pandemic.

The number of successes catalysed by eTrade is substantial, and now eTrade 2.0 seeks to grant two incentives at once. The first, a RM5,000 capital for qualified SMEs entering the digital market; the second, total allowance of up to RM20,000 for any certified training courses on the digital market.

As Malaysia steps into economic recovery in the post pandemic era, local SMEs should not miss this chance to turn their business around. I urge entrepreneurs to utilise the various incentives under eTrade, and together with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, expand their sights to the overseas market, bringing Malaysia’s high quality products to the international audience.

More details on eTrade can be found at www.matrade.gov.my/en/etrade.
