Enhancing Syariah Court Bill - In power lust, DAP conned by PAS & now again exploited by Amanah

It is atrocious enough that PAS remains obstinate and implacable to the cries of both Muslim and non-Muslim Malaysians to withdraw its tabling of the Private Member’s Bill on amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction)

Amidst the debacle, PArti Amanah Negara lent its weigh to the pro-amendment debate when their President Mat Sabu, Communications Director cum Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad reiterated Amanah’s support for PAS’ proposal.

Today, 17 Oct 2016 as PAS’ motion is readied as the fourth item in the Order Paper for the parliamentary session commencing today, Amanah has tabled an alternative motion via its Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud. Khalid Samad explains that the Amanah motion on Act 355 is “not just about empowering the Shariah Courts by punishment but a more holistic approach … within the framework of the Federal Constitution (Malay Mail Online, 17 Oct 2016).” Adding insult to injury, Khalid Samad claims the Amanah motion to enhance the Syariah Court’s power “is acceptable by ALL parties!”

1) If Amanah’s motion was indeed acceptable by ALL parties as Khalid Samad claims, this means, DAP was in the know. Hence, why didn’t DAP be honest and transparent about it and divulge the Amanah proposal to the public?

2) If DAP did indeed accept AManah’s motion, then just like how DAP hoodwinked non-Malaysians to ballot for PAS in 2008 and 2013, DAP is liable for steering non-Muslims to trust Amanah, only to be betrayed by Amanah’s volte face.

3) Will DAP now finally admit that MCA was factual and correct when it cautioned the masses against the Rocket whitewashing PAS and Amanah, and that Amanah shares the same DNA as PAS, whereby ultimately, upon securing non-Muslim support, PAS and Amanah will commit a volte face and slam dunk hudud criminal codes on all ?

Whereas MCA had put our foot down on HAdi Awang Private Member’s Bill to forego any restrictions on the manner and degree of punishments with regards to Syariah laws and their jurisdiction, it is indeed interesting to see DAP throwing caution to the wind by agreeing to Amanah’s proposed Syariah motion submitted to Parliament last week.

4) If DAP was kept in the dark and hence Amanah sprang a surprise, is this how its Pakatan Harapan partner should treat the Rocket? Where are their operations via consensus?

5) Dare DAP reprimand Amanah for this last minute betrayal, or has DAP still not yet learnt its lesson from sleeping with PAS and now dicing the future of Malaysians by cohabitating with Amanah after mutually ditching PAS? As was with PAS, it appears DAP continues to be a stooge within the Opposition and this time, it is Amanah’ stooge.

Amanah’s version was done in a hush hush manner without a thorough debate or consultation with the electorates. DAP is playing a very dangerous gamble of seeking power and votes by compromising on certain fundamentals and playing with fire in supporting Amanah’s proposed Syariah laws without consulting their grassroots members or their constituents who had raised their qualms and worries of political parties invoking religion in their thrust for political games and power.
