Malaysians stand firm against the Amendment of Act 355

The entire Malaysian population watches with much palpitations in their heart beats akin to a Hollywood movie of dead mummies in a pyramid filled with black magic and socceries. The last few months saw endless tales unfold such as the Arabian night in the implementation of the moniker Hudud Bill or the enhancement of the Shariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Bill.

Malaysians both Muslims and non-Muslims are growing weary about this. Although contextually one can agree that an enhancement of the current RUU355 is an upgrade of an old law akin to upgrading to a more expensive make-up set from the previous one, one cannot discount that such a precedent will further erode the supremacy of the Federal Constitution which is the highest law of the Federation.

By right,  one should not stop the enhancement of the RUU355 law as it is only for Muslims, but MCA cannot agree with this because it erodes the supremacy of the Federal Constitution which stands tall above all other laws in this land. Having two sets of law of that run parallel in this country is akin to having two investment agencies that patrol the FDI which will confuse investors.

No one can also guarantee that with the enhancement of the RUU, it will lead to a much more draconian state of the implementation of Hudud. Isn't a whipping of 100 lashes draconian for these modern times? The enhancement doesn't state any room on education or reforming the offender which is where PAS is so lacking and UMNO needs to seriously look into it in a wholesome perspective instead of supporting it with a few amendments.

Needless to say, we also need to remind UMNO regarding the spirit of Barisan Nasional's mutual consensus and not going out acting it alone.
