PETALING JAYA: MCA and the Fujian provincial government will work together towards bringing together businesses from both sides for beneficial cooperation, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"At the same time, (the Fujian government) also encourages exchanges between the educational institutions founded by MCA and universities in Fujian Province," the MCA president said in a statement on Thursday (April 25).

On Wednesday (April 24), Dr Wee led an MCA delegation to meet the Fujian Communist Party of China provincial secretary Zhou Zuyi with other top Fujian CPC officers for an hour-long bilateral meeting.

"In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, I led a 30-member delegation of MCA's China Affairs and the 'Belt and Road' Committee to Fujian Province, China, for a week-long visit," said Dr Wee.

He said that both MCA and the Fujian government have agreed to promote friendly bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China in the areas of trade and educational cooperation.

"We shared information and our experiences in economy, trade, education, humanities and tourism, and reached a consensus to jointly promote and deepen our cooperation.

"H.E. Zhou Zuyi hopes that MCA can be the bridge between enterprises in Fujian province and Malaysia to have more collaborations and, at the same time, encourage cooperation and exchanges between the educational institutions founded by MCA and universities in Fujian Province.

"The purpose is to explore the opportunities for political, economic, cultural and educational cooperation between Malaysia and Fujian Province and to enhance our existing cooperative relationship."

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, Dr Wee said MCA had also invited Zhou to visit Malaysia to promote mutual understanding and cooperation to benefit both countries.

Following the dialogue, the Fujian government proceeded to host a reception for the MCA delegation at the Fuzhou Yuehua Hotel on Wednesday (April 24).

"I sincerely appreciate H. E. Zhou Zuyi and the provincial government for their warm reception of our delegation. After the dialogue, we were pleased to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the bilateral ties between Malaysia and China," Dr Wee said.
