KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes are on the MCA appointed positions, following the just concluded party elections.

Newly elected president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is empowered by the MCA constitution to make the appointments, comprising 24 major posts.

He is expected to announce some appointments after chairing the central committee meeting, his first after the polls on Sunday.

Topping the list of appointments are secretary-general, treasurer-general, national organising secretary, eight central committee members and 13 state chairmen.

In the past, the secretary-general would get one of the four Cabinet minister posts allocated to MCA as a component party under Barisan Nasional

The other three ministerial posts would go to the president, deputy president and usually the vice-president with the most number of votes.

The allocation of ministerial posts was done provided that they were an MP.

The president can appoint another eight central committee members to the 25 elected ones.

These 33 central committee members are equally powerful as they have voting power when there are important decisions to be made in the party.

There are also central committee members by invitation but they have no voting power.

The 13 state chairmen have the power to appoint their respective state line-up.

MCA has presence nationwide except Sarawak.
