Tawau needs help fast; PKR MP says wait “one to two weeks”?

Why has PKR Tawau MP Datuk Christina Liew forgotten what it means to be a wakil rakyat? As the erstwhile Sabah Deputy Chief Minister leads a comfortable life outside of Tawau, has she become completely detached from the urgency and struggle developing in her constituency after the Enhanced Movement Control Order was extended until May 8?

Upset by the turn of events, a few individuals including Borneo Komrad activists and Taman Muhibbah Raya villagers held a peaceful demonstration, only to be arrested.

But as their elected representative, aside from reproaching the protesters for not getting in touch with her officers first, Liew merely expressed that she’s “glad they have a lawyer”. Why is she acting high and mighty by trying to insult her constituents?

Liew’s behaviour and actions had left the villagers in the lurch and to their own devices, with no sense of responsibility. Not returning to her constituency; not going down to the fields; no compassion; no empathy. Why does YB Datuk Christina obsess over restoring Prince Philip Park located 450km away from her constituency, yet neglect helping her own Tawau residents stave off starvation. As the Malay proverb goes, “kera di hutan disusukan, anak di rumah mati kelaparan.”

Liew mentioned she had instructed her officers to investigate the protest, and is currently in the process of preparing 2,000 food packs. But even so, why should the relief be “one or two weeks” away when Tawau residents sorely need help immediately?

That’s where the MP’s service centre comes in: When the MP is away, the service centre should still assist the local community. Is Christina Liew intentionally withholding aid to her constituents in dire need until she’s available to hand it out in-person to maximise cheap publicity for personal gain?
