The Cameron Highlands by-election should be viewed as a referendum on the Pakatan Harapan government’s performance over the past eight months, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

In a Facebook post, the MCA president said the by-election would not change the federal government, but could be an assessment of Pakatan’s performance over the past eight months.

“Should DAP clearly express its stand to go against the abolition of the death penalty? Or should they continue chanting ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’?

“Should DAP keep quiet or go against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s bumiputra agenda?” he asked.

Dr Wee also questioned whether Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng should oppose the third national car project or continue to let Dr Mahathir use the rakyat’s money to develop the project.

“Should Teo Nie Ching, the so-called best deputy education minister, continue delaying the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate or fulfil the manifesto?” he said.

Dr Wee also questioned whether Parliament needed another quiet MP who shied away from stating his or her stand on major issues and chanted ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ or an MP who would add diversity and provide checks and balances.
