Press statement by MCA Vice President Senator Dato Sri Ti Lian Ker

Is DAP or Lim Guan Eng agreeing to Cabinet Minister tacit support for segregationist product purchase

MCA fails to comprehend the dim wit remarks by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Dato Seri Mohd Redzuan in defending the "Buy Muslim Products" movement which has unfortunately devolved into a "Boycott non-Muslim Product" campaign.

As a Cabinet Minister whose coalition came into power under the platform a race-free "New Malaysia" which boasted of removal of ethnic aligned voting patterns, the public, especially retailers, traders, manufacturers and suppliers who had voted PH will expect a Minister to push for the promotion of a Malaysian-made branding. Now they are all let down by Pakatan and Mohd Redzuan's statement as he does not seem bothered about how such a religion-aligned campaign is unhealthy towards building bridges among all ethnic groups and contrary to the values of a multicultural New Malaysia which PH purportedly espoused.

MCA reiterates our party stand that any boycott campaign along racial or religious line is unhealthy for the nation.  A wiser recommendation would be to support the growth of local talents via a "Buy Malaysian Product" irrespective of faith professed.

Meanwhile, what is Lim Guan Eng's comment on his comrade's remarks now? Why has DAP yet to speak out against Mohd Redzuan but is quick to jump on MCA on the same?

Instead of asking MCA's stand to divert bad press away from PH and despite the MCA President having made very clear the party's position on this issue, what is DAP's and Lim Guan Eng's stand on Mohd Redzuan's approval of a consumer campaign along religious lines?

Is Guan Eng going to sit through this quietly or going to admonish, reprimand or correct his colleague instead of concentrating and focusing on MCA all the time?

Now that he is in a position of power and as a senior member of the Cabinet, are Guan Eng and his 5 other DAP Cabinet Ministers going to “Let this pass” too? Dare they take Mohd Redzuan to task and take a bold stand by disassociating, sanctioning or reprimanding Mohd Redzuan publicly or during Cabinet meetings and assert that the PH government should support "Buy Malaysian Campaign"?
