To relieve pressure off public hospitals, GoCare raised a total of RM30,000 in medical supplies based on the needs of public hospitals earmarked for COVID-19 cases in the Klang Valley; Items include large carts with oxygen tanks, PPE suits, medical face masks, face shields, whiteboards, wall clocks, blood glucose measuring machines, disinfection spray guns, medical thermometers, and large tents.

The COVID-19 outbreak in Malaysia is still active. Due to the restrictions imposed on medical supply suppliers, they were unable to operate during this time. This resulted in a medical supply shortage at Klang Valley public hospitals.

CRSM then launched an emergency fund-raising operation through GoCare and received enthusiastic donations from the public; With the funds raised, GoCare transferred the large carts of oxygen tanks to Putrajaya Hospital and Kajang Hospital in the last two months and last week. It also delivered medical thermometers to Serdang Hospital today, as well as supplies, vegetarian lunches, and chocolate biscuits to frontliners of Selayang Hospital.

AST Chemical Group donated 100 disinfection guns and disinfectants, KL Selangor Photography Association donated a waterproof digital camera and amplifier, as well as sponsored vegetarian lunch boxes, Nano Medic Company donated a blood glucose metre and test handle, and the large cart of oxygen tanks donated by VTAR Institute.

These COVID-19 public hospitals require disinfection guns so that every department can disinfect quickly; blood glucose meters to expedite the classification of patients at high risk of COVID19 disease; and forensic departments to use waterproof digital cameras.

Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie, conveyed that GoCare is also collaborating with Wanita MCA to raise funds for medical equipment for pregnant women and newborn babies infected with COVID-19.

"Due to the rising number of pregnant women who have contacted COVID-19, their infants must also be admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit and separated until they are discharged from the hospital. To reduce the risk of cross-infection, each confirmed expectant mother and newborn baby requires a separate isolation room, supplies, and equipment.”

"At present, these hospitals also urgently need to raise the following supplies such as, two sets of POWERED AIR PURIFYING RESPIRATOR (PAPR), (Protective gear for doctors, it uses a blower to pass contaminated air through a HEPA filter, which removes the contaminant and supplies purified air to a facepiece); 7 units of infant milk warmer, (To warm milk for infant before feeding); 7 units of digital scale 0-1000g (To weigh baby diapers as part of the routine neonatal care in the NICU for daily fluid management); 2 units of digital electronic infant weigh for babies, (To weigh baby’s weight daily to monitor their growth. Changes in weight affect their nutrition plan, dosage of medications and daily fluid management in this tiniest population.)

Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly, National Chief of CRSM, stated that CRSM and GoCare will continue to raise funds for public hospitals in the Klang Valley and will also expand fundraising activities to other states where the pandemic situation is worsening. “We hope that the general public, corporations, and marchers will actively contribute.” For more information, kindly visit https://gocare.org.my/product/covid-pregnant-women/  or call the GoCare hotline at 019-668 6278.
