PETALING JAYA: Two prospective loan applicants were swindled by conmen pretending to be “agents” of Koperasi Jayadiri Malaysia (Kojadi), MCA’s investment arm.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong warned the small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) to be wary of those claiming to be “agents” or “middlemen” representing Kojadi.

“It came to my attention that a man who called himself ‘Eddie Lee’ claimed to be an agent of Kojadi who could help businesses get the Chinese SME loans offered by Kojadi.

“We found out about this when people who sought the loans claimed they paid Eddie Lee, as they thought he represented Kojadi. Kojadi has lodged a police report and we want this man to be caught,” he said.

Dr Wee added that Kojadi has never appointed agents and businesses need not pay any fee to apply for the loans.

“Anyone needing help can approach Kojadi directly,” he said.

Kojadi manages funds meant for SMEs allocated in both Budget 2016 and Budget 2017.

As at March this year, RM89.08mil has been disbursed in loans to some 477 SMEs in the country.

Applicants would be considered for loans between RM50,000 and RM250,000 and are required to service it at a flat interest rate of 4% a year.
