KUALA TERENGGANU: MCA will be fielding younger candidates in the 14th general election, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The MCA president said more than 50% of the candidates listed are new faces and were aged below 50.

"We've finalised our list and will send it up to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for approval," he said.

Liow was in Kuala Terengganu for the state level celebrations in conjunction with MCA's 69th anniversary and to also meet with local NGOs.

He added that in order to bring forward issues relevant to youths, the party believes it is crucial to field candidates within that age range.

"Barisan Nasional also focuses on youths so likewise, we will focus on the aspirations of our youths.

"Their future is important. We want the energy and dynamism of youths to work together with the country's leadership to build our nation," he said.

He also said that MCA will be contesting in 90 state seats and 40 parliamentary seats.

"We are confident that we are fielding the best candidates to serve the people," he said.
