Press statement by MCA National Youth Chairperson Datuk Nicole Wong

12th Malaysia Plan empowers youth to be key thrust in national recovery

During the announcement by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri of the 12th Malaysia Plan, he emphasised the importance of youth participation, and reassured that the amendments needed for UNDI18 will be done swiftly to ensure youths play a key role in the nation’s development in the next 5 years.

Since the Prime Minister has repeatedly assured that UNDI18 will be implemented, it is now only a matter of giving it time for the mechanism to be ironed out. In that regard, MCA Youth will ensure that it will come to fruition by keeping a close eye and providing assistance.

Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, the government has drafted various youth-empowerment initiatives to increase youth involvement in nation building. For example: the proposal for setting up a regional youth centre to boost youth activities. Hence, youths are challenged to reciprocate and improve themselves in this period to show their worth.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a paradigm change to the entire world, and the winds of change necessitated youths to be more adaptable, faster, and more resilient amidst studying or working during the pandemic.

However, youths must not forget the love for our nation, the patriotic spirit which stirs inside us to be better and contribute to the nation’s development and future.

The 12th Malaysia Plan is only just the beginning of 5 years of transformation. In the years ahead, all Malaysians must stay united so that the future is one that resonates with all of us.
