Separately, Sin Woon also highlighted that the MCA party elections will commence in April to select a new leadership for the organisation at all levels.

He explained, “in accordance with Article 167 of the MCA Party Constitution, party elections must be convened within 6 months after the general elections. As the 15th general elections concluded on 19 November 2022, the MCA Central Committee in a meeting had resolved that a 2023 Party Headquarters Election Steering Committee be established and that it will be headed by the MCA Secretary General.”

Sin Woon also informed that the list of all MCA members who qualify to vote will be distributed to Chairman of the respect State Liaison Committee during celebrations for MCA’s 74th party anniversary.

The schedule date for the MCA party polls are as follows:

22 April:        Nominations at the Branch level

29 April:        Voting for the Youth and Wanita wings at the Branch level

30 April:        Voting for the main wing at the Branch level

1 June:          Nominations at the Division level

10 June:        Voting for Youth and Wanita wings at the Division level

11 June:        Voting for the main wing at the Division level

“In view of the possibility of state elections (PRN) for 6 states, the dates for voting at the State and Central Committee will be announced later. Should the dates for the PRN coincide with the party polls, there might be an adjustment in the dates,” Sin Woon elaborated.

Nevertheless, he also explained that there is no pressing need to announce the date for the party elections at the state level as this only involves the Youth and Wanita wings which may only be carried out after the completion of voting at the Branch and Division levels.

“However, a date has been set for elections for Youth and Wanita at the State Level. For the National level, if there are no changes, the party elections will be conducted in September 2023.”
