BENTONG: PAS’ “divorce” from PKR was expected early on, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Previous Opposition coalitions collapsed because each party was looking out for its own interest, he added.

“If you look at Selangor, where the citizens gave you a mandate to run the state – do a good job and deliver results.

“But, they look out for their own interest first, by raising salaries and they changed their Mentri Besar,” said the Bentong MP during a press conference after the launch of the Road Transport Department’s 71st anniversary celebrations in Dataran Bentong yesterday.

Selangor’s current Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali took over the top position in 2014 after his predecessor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim resigned.

Liow was responding to questions about the strong call by PAS’ ulama wing for the party to cut ties with PKR immediately.

PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was also reported as saying the party would no longer be part of a coalition state government after the next general election.

Liow said the addition of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia meant there were too many leaders, each with their own agenda.

“They are not like Barisan Nasional.

“Even though we have 13 parties, we have our formula for success. We work together.

“Consensus and cooperation have been turned into common values. If you do not have a value system, you will fall apart,” said Liow.
