PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker (pix) has accused Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad of playing racial politics, saying it was surprising that Pakatan Harapan was now against the Prime Minister for ending the New Economic Policy (NEP).

The MCA religious harmony bureau chief said this in response to a recent statement by the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) chairman, who had alleged that Pakatan is opposing Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for "doing away with the NEP".

According to Ti, the NEP ended in 1990 and was replaced by the New Development Policy (NDP).

“This was done after efforts by leaders in many roundtable discussions under the National Economic Consultative Council, which was formed under Dr Mahathir’s tenure," he said in a statement on Monday.

Ti added that DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang had chosen to stay silent despite being "vocal" on many issues.

"So, is Kit Siang now agreeing with Dr Mahathir to bring back the NEP under the leadership of Pribumi?" Ti asked.
