Press Statement by MCA Publicity Bureau Chairman Senator Dato’ Chai Kim Sen

DAP shameless to exploit hudud crisis for political mileage

DAP National Organising Secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook continues his public spat over insistence that hudud will not and cannot be implemented. It is utterly shameless and appalling that DAP is using the hudud issue to gain political mileage and shore up local support.

Loke Siew Fook is to be blamed for the tabling of Syariah Bill by PAS, where he once said that ‘No need to fear the Hudud Law if you don’t steal or rob’. Loke Siew Fook will be forever remembered for his ‘crime’ in dismissing the Hudud crisis as scare tactics. He should apologise to the Chinese community if he is still conscientious, and also join MCA’s effort in opposing Hudud enactments being implemented in the country.

Now it is a critical time for both sides of the political divide to stop the passing of Hudud Bill in Parliament, as to defend the Federal Constitution. However, Loke Siew Fook chooses to make use of this issue to attack MCA and weaken the party. Do DAP wishes to see Hudud materialised and implemented in the country?

We cannot do anything if DAP chooses to wash its hands off and refuse to stand up against PAS Hudud enactments. But DAP should stop smearing and insulting MCA, as well as making false claims to weaken the political strengths of MCA and other BN component parties. This is not only despicable, but cowardly acts!

In the past DAP had campaigned on PAS’s behalf during for the previous general election, which had helped PAS to grow stronger and now DAP wants to stay out of the mess t created by severing ties with PAS and condoning the party. It is too late for DAP to curb the PAS’s growing influence, and the party should be held responsible for the hudud crisis!
