The Barisan Nasional may not be perfect but it has a track record which is more than 50 years old and has brought much development to the country, said Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.
The MCA Wanita chief said many had accused Barisan of many things but had conveniently forgotten that the coalition had steered the nation into greater heights.
Speaking during a ceramah at Sungai Lalang near here on Saturday night, Chew hit out at Pakatan Rakyat, saying that the by-election, financed by taxpayers, was brought about because of its state representative resigned.
“Nobody knows the real reason for his resignation. He has not explained himself until today,” she said.
Also present at the ceramah was Barisan’s Bukit Selambau candidate Datuk S. Ganesan who is banking on his local boy status to win voters over.
“I was from a poor family in the estates. My parents were rubber tappers. I understand the hardships of those living in poverty.
“Voters need an assemblyman who can serve and represent all of them equally, address problems and solve them,” said Ganesan.
He said the voters would be throwing their votes away if they chose any of the 13 independent candidates.
“What can they do for you? Where are they going to get allocations? I have the Federal Government behind me.
“This is a fight between BN and PKR.
“But why would you want to vote for another PKR man when the first one had failed to deliver?” he asked.
MIC vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan added that there were signs that voters in Bukit Selambau were returning to the mainstream.
