MCA welcomes support shown by PM Najib towards Tee Keat’s handling of the PKFZ project

MCA welcomes the press statement by the Prime Minister’s Office as reported in The Star, 31 Aug 09 that the Government is committed in the investigations into the PKFZ issue. The Prime Minister’s Office statement indicates that Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak backs the actions undertaken by MCA President cum Transport Minister that full transparency and accountability must be practised in the probing the PKFZ issue.

The Prime Minister’s support into Tee Keat’s investigation of the PKFZ issue certainly resonates well with the Prime Minister’s call of “People First, Performance Now” which advocates for transparency at all levels of governance and administration. It is this process of reforms initiated by the Prime Minister and MCA’s three thrusts of transformation which will regain the confidence of voters which was lost in the political tsunami of the 12th general elections last year March, partly owing to excessive spending on mega projects. The Prime Minister’s support indicates prioritizing the interests of the rakyat.

By supporting the Transport Minister’s handling of the PKFZ issue, the Prime Minister has placed confidence in Tee Keat, even if it means ruffling the feathers of well known political leaders as named in the PricewaterhouseCooper’s report, as the end result will deliver greater good to the general public in protecting taxpayers funds. Any attempts to stifle investigations into the PKFZ serve no benefit other than to create suspicion as to how much more funds were and will be allegedly fraudulently spent.

With the Public Accounts Committee conducting an investigation to uncover alleged misuse of taxpayers’ funds to finance the PKFZ project, MCA hopes that individuals found responsible for causing the PKFZ project to balloon massively in costs will be held accountable and dealt with in accordance with the law.
