At a press conference chaired by Datuk Sri Dr Chua Soi Lek after hosting a dialogue with the Federation of Livestock Farmers’ Association, the MCA Deputy President informed that the dialogue enabled MCA the opportunity to understand the problems faced by pig breeders.

At present, pig farmers and pig sellers and retailers are engaged in a media war on pork prices. “The best control of price is demand and supply.“

He added that, “whatever mechanism delivered must take the interest of the consumer.”

Meanwhile, Soi Lek who also chairs MCA Govertment Monitoring Bureau informed that members of the Liverstock Farmers’ Association have given the assurance that ex-farm prices will be maintained at RM 760 per 100 kg. “Normally for Chinese New Year, pork prices go up between 10% to 20%. We hope that pork sellers and retailers will not take the opportunity to increase prices,” Soi Lek said.

On another issue, Soi Lek informed that MCA is willing to help arrange a dialogue between the pig farmers, their association with pig sellers, their association. “Both parties have not met to discuss matters for three years. If they met, it ended with unpleasant outcome. MCA is willing to help arrange any meeting to resolve any misunderstanding so that consumer interests are protected.

Besides Soi Lek, other MCA leaders present at the dialogue include Central Commitete members Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho and Sdr Loh Seng Kok.
