Reaction to newspaper reports that MCA Youth supports the issue of a unity government

MCA Youth today vehemently denies a few mainstream newspaper reports which had alleged that the youth wing of MCA supports efforts for the formation of a unity government.

Expressing regret and disappointment at the said news articles, MCA Youth National Chairman, Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong clarified that the issue if MCA Youth supported efforts to form a unity government as alleged by the newspapers never arose.

On the contrary, stressed Ka Siong, MCA Youth only stated the wing’s support towards any effort including discussions to restore political stability and unity in the country.

“At a time when the country is facing a pressing global economic crisis, MCA Youth believes that the utmost priority of all political parties is to channel efforts to bring back political stability and to help in the recovery of the national economy.”

“Therefore, it is inaccurate to equate efforts to restore political stability as an agreement by MCA Youth for a unity government,” he said in a press statement.

At the same time, Ka Siong who is also the Member of Parliament for Ayer Hitam said, “every effort towards the creation of a unity government must take into consideration the needs and sensitivities of all communities in the country. Malaysia, clearly is a multicultural country and the voices of all communities must be respected.”
