KUALA LUMPUR: A college student who spurned the advances of a man found her personal information and photographs posted on an online Friendster account which stated that she was looking for a life partner.

Since then she has been getting disturbing calls from men.

According to the student, 26, the man, a debt collector who was a former schoolmate, wanted her to be his wife.

The student had lodged two police reports before seeking help from the MCA Public Complaints and Services Department.

Department head Datuk Michael Chong said the woman told him she was just friends with the 27-year-old man but things got sour when she refused his marriage proposal.

“She told the man she was not interested in marrying him and he got angry and started threatening her with abduction and death last December,” he said.

The man quietened down after a police report was lodged on Dec 3 last year.

In March he started his antics again, which she tolerated, until she started getting disturbing calls from men who had read the “invitation” for a life partner over the Friendster account, which had been created unbeknownst to her.

Chong said the woman lodged another report on Oct 19. He urged women to be more careful with whom they had relationships with and said he had received at least 19 such cases where 90% of victims were women.
