Virtually unknown until the incumbent Barisan Nasional ruling government selected him to contest for Ijok by-election scheduled on 28 April 2007, K Parthiban is no shrinking violet standing opposite the well established corporate figure Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim whose CV would be the envy of many aspiring politicians.
So, Parthiban is younger and still a novice. But in this David versus the Goliath scenario, that’s what Ijok just needs – an infusion of new blood and talent who is brave to take on the challenges posed by heavyweights.
As Ijok is a semi-urban town consisting mainly of petty traders, coffee-shop owners or working class voters, who better to empathise with the needs of the constituency, other than Parthiban, who was born and bred in Kuala Selangor? Parthiban symbolizes the hopes of the downtrodden - that through perseverance, anyone can overcome any barriers, hardships and rise up.
Life was never a silver spoon for him. After his parents’ consecutive departure from mother earth, he battled against all odds earning himself a Masters of Education from Universiti Malaya. A humble bloke, he never forgot his impoverished roots, coming back to be a teacher is a Tamil primary school at Tanjung Karang and Kuala Selangor. He went on to be the co-academic officer with the Kuala Selangor District Education Department. He could have gone on to the private sector and earn many times more. But he chose to remain and serve the government he did.
Active in social activities, Parthiban currently serves as MIC’s Tanjung Karang division secretary.
Khalid Ibrahim may appear to hold all the credentials working for him. But can you trust Khalid Ibrahim? He benefited from Barisan Nasional’s New Economic Policy. He got a post-graduate overseas education, was made CEOs of Permodalan Nasional Berhad followed by Kumpulan Guthries Berhad, very coveted positions in Government-Linked-Companies (GLCs). And this is how he repays the government – by doing a back-turn and joining Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was imprisoned by our judiciary for corruption. Need more be said? Action speaks for itself.
On the eve of the Machap by-elections at the PRK ceramah in Melaka Pindah, Khalid assailed Malaysia’s pioneer astronaut programme. For someone who gained so much from the NEP, why is it a crime for other Malaysians to embrace new technologies and research, bringing back such knowledge to our homeland to put us on par in the same league as other fully developed countries?
Vote Parthiban. He is the right choice, the perfect choice. Retain BN to best represent you.
