The DAP’s doors are closed to PAS as far as electoral cooperation is concerned, says DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

“There will be no changes or compromise in the party’s stand on the matter and talks of cooperation are baseless,” he said.

Lim said the party will only cooperate with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and former deputy premier Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Lim was asked to comment on a statement by Penang PAS commissioner Mohd Salleh Man on Sunday that there was a possibility both parties would work together, especially in Penang, to wrest the state government from the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.

Asked if DAP would still work with Keadilan if the party joined forces with PAS in the general election, Lim said: “That is their (Keadilan’s) right but we will still work with PKR.”

On the number of seats which would be contested in Penang, he said it would be the same, if not more than in the last genera election.

The DAP contested 20 state seats and seven parliamentary seats but only won one state seat in Sungai Puyu and four parliamentary seats, namely Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Gelugor, Tanjong and Bagan, while PKR won one parliamentary seat in Permatang Pauh and PAS  won the Permatang Pasir state seat.

Lim said the party hoped to strengthen the Opposition’s position in Penang in the next general election and in the following general election, stake a claim to the state government.
