IPOH: The Perak government had already finalised the list of councillors when Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) recommended their choice of candidates.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said Sungai Siput MP Dr D. Jeyakumar had met him recently to recommend four individuals as councillors for the Kuala Kangsar municipal council.

“However by then, the candidates had already been finalised,” he told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the 338 local councillors here yesterday.

Nizar urged the PSM and other dissatisfied groups to give the state until the end of the year to see how the current pool of councillors performed.

“If any councillor fails to meet the mark, he would be replaced by other qualified candidates,'' he said.

“We are not saying that this arrangement is the best, but it is the best we can do at the moment.”

Nizar was responding to Sungai Siput PSM branch secretary M. Sukumaran who expressed disappointment that none of the PSM candidates had been chosen.

The four are Sukumaran, M. Agastim, Chong Kim Foo and Adam Ngah Naim.
