Press Statement by Wanita MCA Young Women Bureau (Beliawanis) Chief Sdri Tee Hooi Ling

Attention should not be directed towards Jessie Ooi but to the debaters, Chua Soi Lek and Lim Guan Eng.

I call on everyone to put a stop to the personal attacks targeted at Barisan Nasional Selayang coordinator Jessie Ooi. Any opinions or public focus directed towards anyone should have been made on the same day of the debate, not after, and netizens and bloggers should not be excessively obsessing or speculating on the subject of Jessie Ooi’s question, so as to keep the focus of the debate on the debaters.

The claims made and circulated around the internet and in public has been widely exaggerated and Jessie Ooi herself has admitted to being over excited on that day due to the fact that she was not given enough time to convey her question properly which had thus resulted in a misunderstanding. As such, the public should stop criticizing her.

It is also shocking to know that there are some irresponsible people out there who had harassed her with foul words as well as posted words and pictures which are akin to sexual harassment.

The attention during the debate which took place last Saturday should have been directed at MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng. The issue raised by Jessie Ooi regarding the problems in the state was an issue which many people wanted to know about, but due to the short time limit, she did not expressed herself properly, and now even her family members have become victims.

The bloggers and netizens who have attacked Jessie Ooi should be made clear that the focus of the debate is the two leaders who had agreed to talk and discuss on major issues and the direction which our country should take, and not to twist Jessie Ooi’s question. Such uncouth practices do not conform to the system of democracy in our country and are just plain wrong.
