Cash aid for the sick and needy in Yong Peng
YONG PENG: Some 100 patients with chronic ailments and pupils with financial hardship had received cash aid from Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong recently.
Wee said the programme was in line with the government’s effort to reach out to the poor and needy.
S. Janabi, 60, one of the sickly from Taman Kota said it was the first time she had received such assistance.
“This will help a lot. I will use the money to pay for the medicine that I need every month, and the doctor’s consultation fees,” said the retired rubber tapper.
Another resident, Habsabi Taib, 57, said she spent a lot of money on medical bills due to diabetes and other health problems.
“My husband passed away 22 years ago and I have undergone four surgeries besides raising our six children on my own.
“This cash aid means a lot to me,” she said.
Nine-year-old Shirly Mah Jie Xie, who underwent a surgery last month, was also among the recipients of the cash aid. A simple ceremony was held at a coffee shop here recently.
Dr Wee also presented three wheelchairs to three patients and ang pows for 19 university and college students who scored good results in their examinations.
In a separate event, Dr Wee spent several hours visiting residents in Kangkar Baru, Kampung Sin Lik, Ladang C Yong Peng and Kampung Semangat.
