Press Statement by MCA Youth Secretary General Dato’ Chai Kim Sen
Dong Zong’s Chow Siew Hong should focus on advancing Chinese Education
Allegations by Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia) Deputy President Chow Siew Hong of a deal struck between MCA and the federal government to limit the number of Chinese independent schools when amendments were made to the Education Act in 1996 warrant criticism as it is an attempt to discredit MCA. This accusation brings more harm than good as it undermines the previous progress and development of Chinese schools education.
It is extremely regrettable that Chow Siew Hong resorts to using a non-existent contract as hearsay evidence to attack MCA. I urge the Dong Zong Deputy President to cease his destructive and meaningless remarks which play no practical or significant role in the advancement of Chinese education but fuels suspicion.
MCA opens new paths for United Examination Certificate holders
MCA more than any other party, places the upmost emphasis on the development of Chinese education. We voice out to defend the Constitutional right to mother-tongue education as our duty besides contributing towards Chinese independent schools.
The fruits of our labour are evident as Chinese independent school graduates are permitted to apply for PTPTN loan to further their studies as of 2010. UEC top scorers are also granted unconditional grants to pursue tertiary education abroad. UEC holders with 4 credits (3 credits and 1 credit in SPM Bahasa Malaysia) are permitted entry into teacher training colleges.
Dong Zong or Chinese education will not benefit from slandering MCA. Hence, I urge Dong Zong to change its attitude and join hands with MCA. Through our collaborative efforts, our Chinese education will progress to further heights.
