BUKIT MERTAJAM: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has congratulated Barisan Nasional on its victory in the Galas and Batu Sapi by-elections, but hopes the coalition will fulfil its election promises.

He said Barisan’s victory in Galas was a victory for its by-election director Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, said the battle in Galas was not between Barisan and Pakatan Rakyat or between Umno and PAS.

“We were fighting a local legend, Tengku Razaleigh.

“And, we must concede that so long as he is in Gua Musang, the people there will remain in his hands, even if he is without a political party,” he said during a Deepavali gathering at Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy’s residence in Sim­pang Ampat here yesterday.
