Biodata of Speakers:

 

 

Malik Imtiaz Sarwar

 

Malik Imtiaz Sarwar is a leading Malaysian human rights lawyer and activist and the current president of the National Human Rights Society (HAKAM). Through HAKAM and a coalition of NGOs called Article 11 (after the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion) of which HAKAM is a member, he has been actively involved in efforts to promote the rule of law and constitutionalism. He further actively promotes a civil rights discourse both in and outside court.

 

 

Edward Saw Keat Leong

 

 

The speaker, Edward Saw Keat Leong, is an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.  Having obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 1996 from Monash University, Melbourne, he returned to Malaysia and commenced his pupilage in the firm of Messrs Ng Yook Woon, Andrew T.C. Saw & Company. He was admitted to the Bar on 24.10.1997 and has been in practice ever since. As the firm was heavily involved in Industrial Relations it was just a matter of course that he began to specialize in handling Industrial Court cases and advising clients on employment and labour related matters.

 

He appears and conducts trials regularly in cases before the Industrial Court and appears regularly in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court in Judicial Review matters pertaining to Industrial Relations.  Apart from Industrial Relations Mr. Edward Saw is also involved with the Bar Council’s Legal Aid Center and has taken on pro-bono criminal and public interest cases and in the course of this has gained, and continues to gain, experience in conducting criminal trials and habeas corpus applications.

 

 

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hj. Mohd Hamdan Adnan

 

He is an ex-Commissioner for the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) and is currently lecturing in UITM on Media Studies.  He is also the advisor for the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (FOMCA) & Education & Research Association of Malaysia (ERA).
