KLUANG: The people must be confident that their Government of choice will be able to continue to ensure racial harmony, stability, peace and progress in the country, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

He said voters must get this clear as the polls is nearing.

“You are the boss. You will decide on the state government and federal government, and most important, your future, “ he said to the applause of about 1,000 guests at the Lian Hua Gong Temple here on Sunday. (April 29). On the DAP’s battle cry, Ubah (change the government), he said it was a political ambition without the people’s interest at heart.

Greetings: Dr Chua and vicepresident Gan Ping Sieu (second from left) shaking hands with the people during the Lian Hua Gong temple dinner at Che Luan Kor Hall, in Kluang.

“ DAP used to be against PAS because of the Islamic party’s objective to impose Islamic rule in the country.

“PAS has not change its objective. As such the DAP, who is now a PAS ally, owes the people an explanation , “ he said.

Dr Chua who is also Johor MCA chairman, said DAP must state who would be the Johor Mentri Besar and Prime Minister if Pakatan took over.

The Chinese should also ask DAP how Pakatan could provide fairer treatment for the community compared to Barisan Nasional, he added.

“While Barisan may not be perfect, we cannot deny that it has brought stability, peace and development to the nation over five decades,” he pointed out, adding that what the country is today is not by accident.

Dr Chua who was a Johor state executive councillor from the 1980’s until 2004, said the state government had been consistent in improving the people’s living regardless of race.

Citing examples, he said the state had been approving land and aid for Chinese primary schools all the while.

For temples built without proper procedures, Dr Chua said the MCA and the state authorities had been working together to resolve the problem amicably instead of finding fault or demolishing the structures.

He said the ability to run a government, and doing a good job, does not come overnight.

Dr Chua likened Pakatan’s call to change the government to changing one’s wardrobe.

Meanwhile, he said the country, under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s leadership, is on a fast track to become a developed and high income nation by 2020.
