MCA sets up roving service team

PETALING JAYA: The MCA has formed a roving service team to provide instant help and advice to those living in the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary constituency.

“For example, those interested in applying for welfare assistance can call its hotline and team members will arrive to help them with the application,” Selangor MCA chairman Datuk Donald Lim said after launching the service yesterday.

To get it going, the team held a 1Malaysia Health Carnival at the Section 17 hawker market yesterday, offering free health checks such as diabetes screening, blood pressure test and body mass index analysis.

Lim went on a walkabout there and at the PJ Old Town market where he distributed goodie bags to the hawkers and customers.

“We formed this new team to serve the people who have difficulty coming to us,” said the former Petaling Jaya Selatan MP.

Lim, who is also the Deputy Finance Minister, said residents could take part or enquire about the MCA-managed schemes, such as the 1MCA Medical Foundation, 1MCA Education Loan Scheme, 1MCA Youth Micro Credit Scheme and the 1MCA Member Group Insurance Scheme, through the team.

Residents can also call its members if they had community-related complaints.

Lim said many residents had complained of poor administration in Selangor under the Pakatan Rakyat.

“They complain that their rubbish do not get collected, their drains are clogged and roads with pot-holes are not repaired,” he said.

The service team, which can be reached at 012-2890230, is headed by Lim’s special officer Wong Fong Leng.
