Members urged to sign up for insurance coverage
KULAI: More than 150,000 MCA members in Johor have yet to sign up for the free insurance coverage provided by the party.
Only some 45,000 of the 200,000 members in the state have signed up since the 1MCA Group Insurance scheme was opened for registration two months ago.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek urged the state’s grassroots leaders to step up the registration exercise.
Under the scheme, family members of the deceased will receive RM10,000 and another RM4,000 bereavement aid if death was due to accident.
The partially disabled insured will receive RM5,000.
“As life can be unpredictable, please help our members register under the scheme as soon as possible,” Dr Chua, also Johor MCA chairman, said when opening the state MCA annual convention here, recently.
He was reported saying in Ipoh recently that there were already 200 claims made under the scheme so far.
Dr Chua said the registration for the insurance had been extended to September.
He said new members would also be entitled to register for coverage.
He added that MCA was the only Barisan Nasional component party which provided such free insurance coverage for its members.
MCA has about a million members.
