THE MyKasih Foundation has extended its arm to help 4,000 underprivileged families in Kedah, said Alor Setar MP Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung.

“These families from the Padang Serai, Sungai Petani, Kuala Kedah and Alor Setar parliamentary areas will each get a monthly allowance of RM80 that can be used to buy food and books for their school-going children.

“The allowance provided by the foundation will ease some of the burden faced by such families,” he said when met after launching the MyKasih programme on Sunday night.

Chor, who is also Housing and Local Government minister, said 1,000 families in the Alor Setar parliamentary area had been picked to receive the aid.

He said: “I hope the children of these underprivileged families will make good use of the aid by giving their best in their studies.”

Also present was MyKasih Foundation chairman and co-founder Ngau Boon Keat, who said 30,000 families nationwide had been receiving the monthly aid from the foundation since 2009.

He said: “In Kedah, there are already 2,000 other families receiving such aid. It is our wish to help such people improve their lives and I hope they will use the aid wisely.”
