Pakatan’s populist promises will bankrupt the nation, Guan Eng is being delusional
DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng statement that the nation will not go bankrupt if Pakatan takes over the federal government is misleading and deceptive, as their continuous string of populist promises will eventually lead the nation towards bankruptcy. Guan Eng is being delusional if he sincerely believes that Pakatan will not bankrupt the nation.
Pakatan de facto leader Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been constantly calling for change, and has revealed 4 populist promises which are the abolishment of tolls, ensuring that all households have a minimum income of RM 4,000 a month, to abolish car excise duties and to abolish the PTPTN. Anwar had also promised the reduction of fuel prices within 24 hours after taking over the federal government, and while these promises are helpful to DAP, these same promises are the ones which will knockout the country’s economy.
Should Pakatan honour these promises, the government will have to spend at least RM200 billion. Abolishing tolls will cost the government at least RM50 billion, ensuring a RM4,000 minimum household income will take up RM930 billion, abolishing car excise duties will demand an additional RM80 million. Added together it is equal to our nation’s annual income, and this is not including the cost needed for them to abolish the PTPTN yet. At this rate, within 2 years our country will definitely face bankruptcy.
Thus, Guan Eng should be more realistic about these short term policies instead of telling the government how it should spend the money, as he himself has failed to announce any national development plans and to reveal a specific economic model.
Will the money to fulfill their promises come from the nation’s income? If so, how is it then possible for the nation to be stable and to develop? How can the people reach a higher income nation? Pakatan always makes populist promises, but they have never explained clearly or in great detail how they intend to obtain the enough of the nation’s income to support their foolish promises.
