Schools in Tanjung Piai benefit from party’s allocation
PONTIAN: The MCA had announced an allocation of RM200,000 to eight Chinese schools in Tanjung Piai and another RM100,000 to an independent school here.
Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Wee Jeck Seng who gave the good news, received a rousing applause from some 3,200 people during the Tanjung Piai MCA division dinner here on Friday.
Under the allocation, schools such as the SJKC Pei Chun 1, SJKC Pei Chun 2, SJKC Pei Qiao, SJKC Bin Chong, SJKC Cheow Min, SJKC Ken Boon and SJKC Chi Mang in Kukup, SJKC Yu Ming in Pekan Nenas would receive the funds.
The other amount of RM100,000 would be directed to Pei Chun Independent High School.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who also attended the dinner, said the MCA would always help the people especially regarding education matters.
He also praised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as a hardworking man who saw the needs of the people all year round.
“I am not trying to lick his boots but any person could see that Najib is easily the most hardworking Prime Minister in our history. “There is no denying that,” added Dr Chua.
On a separate matter, Dr Chua said that the Opposition had created a false impression to mislead the people that they are performing well in Penang.
“They kept saying that they attracted a lot of foreign investors but what they did not say is that the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) experienced a negative growth of 1.8% in 2008 and 2009 whereas the national GDP went up by 5.6% in that period.”
Dr Chua added that Penang is a state for the rich because land cost in Penang is among the highest in the country due to its open tender system on land premium.
He added that land on the island is limited and would get even scarcer one day.
“Statistics showed that there are 100,000 households in Penang with an income of less than RM7,000 and are not sole proprietors of their homes.
“The number of low-cost homes available are only about 5,000 units, which is barely enough to cater to them,” he added.
